LT 8360 · Rethinking eLearning

Part 2: Making Media Selections for eLearning

A 4½-minute lesson built for LT 8360, Rethinking eLearning, in the Georgia State University M.S. Instructional Design & Technology program. Real footage of a lift truck can't show its center of gravity; a simple graphic overlay can. This video works through six eLearning examples, each matched to the media that lets learners see, hear, or practice the critical point.

What it covers

1 · Start with the challenge

Michael Allen's CCAF model (Context, Challenge, Activity, Feedback) as the lens: media isn't a layer added at the end, it's how each of the four gets built.

2 · Six matches

  • Circuit breaker → schematic animation
  • Blood flow → animated flow
  • Harness inspection → line drawing
  • Bearing failure → audio
  • Tape measure → zoomable still
  • Extinguisher choice → simulation

3 · The pattern

The need decides, not the topic. Four questions to ask before selecting, building, or generating any asset, starting with what learners must understand before they can perform the task.

How it was made

Design

  • Script written and locked by the instructor, built around a lift-truck center-of-gravity example from a real safety course
  • The same calm, Vox-style paper-collage look as the LT 7100 media pair: elements fade up in place, motion only where motion is the content

Media

  • Stills from GPT Image 2.5 against a single style frame; four B-roll clips from Grok Video 1.5
  • Narration in a Higgsfield preset voice, read back word by word against the script; music and pump sounds from Epidemic Sound

Build

  • A GSAP scene engine in HTML with code-drawn overlays: labeled centers of gravity that track the rising load, a circuit schematic, animated blood flow, and a true 1/16-inch tape scale
  • Rendered frame by frame in headless Chromium and mixed with FFmpeg behind the branded LT 8360 splash

Narration uses an AI-generated voice. Images and short video clips were generated with AI and reviewed by the instructor. Music and sound effects: Epidemic Sound.
